I just got two pf these filters in a recent purchase, and I have no Idea how to open them up! I know this is probably the dumbest post ever but any help would be appreciated. I have never had an eheim before. There are all these metal tabs around the top, I unlock them and try to pull it apart but it doen't move. I am not sure if I am missing some kinda secret button or something!Thanks for the help!

If the filter is brand new, usually you just need to unlatch all the metal clips and grasp the top of the filter (not the fitting) and 'rock' it from side to side until it opens.

If the filter is used, do the same thing but maybe insert a flat blade screwdriver between the canister body and the filter top to pry it up gently.

If the filter is full of water and you have the Quick Disconnect fittings on the hoses, then you need to open them to allow air into the filter to be able to open it.

I have the exact filter! Yeah pull those tabs up n pull hard as hell! Itll take a lil bit of strength! I have to do the same every time I open mines. Theres no secret button of any sort!

Theres a vacuum thing most people dont get. You have to have the tap valves (The water lines) open and the top slides right off. lol I have never had to tug on mine at all but I always lubricate the tap valves and the O ring for the lid with petroleum jelly.
