so i found a guy selling me a Eheim 2217 for $50 bucks on craigslist but this is my first time buying a canister filter, is this a good price? and what should i check if i go buy it? would it filter my 120 gallon good ? please i need help.

I will say if it's in working condition $50 is a great price, I would be all over it, Especially if it comes with media and all of the hoses etc.. Your odds of getting a lame filter are allot less with an Eheim, they last forever.

Only testing your water perams will tell. Keep an open eye on the used market for an AC110. Those two filters would compliment one another well IMO.
