Hi All,

Just received my eheim 2217 for my 4ft convict tank.
This is the first time ive had a external canister filter so not real sure on the best setup.

It came with a heap of foam filter pads, Am I better off getting some mechanical media to use or are the pads fine?
What sort of media would be worth getting?

Cheers
Dan

The pads are fine, but did they give you any substrate pro.

If you go to the Eheim site and look how they set up the 2217 I am pretty sure that they show it set up with the pro. that is also how I have mine set up and it has been that way for 8-9 years. The very first thing placed in the filter on top of that bottom grate is the hollow noodles (effimech). Then a filter pad. Then substrate pro. Then another pad.

What shop did you buy that at. That stuff usually come with the filter now days. Are you sure no one removed it. That stuff is not cheap.

I see you are in Australia I don't know how Eheim send them there. Good luck! You have the best filter on the market.

Got it from a shop online, still in Aus though. It was only advertised with the filter pads.
Paid $175 aud for it - was the cheapest i could find.
Will go to LFS today and see what mech they have.

Got it all setup last night - all going well. Instructions were pretty crappy - but wasnt that hard to work it out.

Do I have to use the Eheim branded Mech & Substrat? My LFS only has AquaOne.

Is there any difference in the brands?
