I recently purchased a eheim 2227 filter and have it set up. as it cycles the breather tube gurgles with water and is really noisy. I have tried both of the impellers and it is the same. Cant figure out what i am doin wrong. please help!

The breather tube might be too close to the water surface so it is ingesting some water. Try to raise it so it clears the water surface.

I don't understand why you have two impellers. Is this filter new or used?

its new and it came with two for different tank heights. the tube is out of the water... so lost

I think you are referring to the optional orifice that comes with the filter. The clear orifice is for taller tanks that fall within an installation height between 47" and 55".

Try this fix. Unplug the filter and let it fill completely with water until the breather tube/hose is full of water. Now plug the filter back in and see if the gurgling noise goes away. This has worked for me in the past.

Is it possible for you to post pics of how the filter is installed? Where is the filter sitting in relation to the tank? Which media do you have in this filter? This might help to troubleshoot any problems. Also, what size tank is this for?

I had exactly the same problem you had. Last week I bought a 2227 online. I set it up and it worked great, no noise, nothing. The second day I noticed a small puddle under the filter. I took it apart and noticed there was a tiny tiny crack in the bottom of the green plastic canister. Apparently it was damaged in when it got shipped to my house. I had Petsmart send me another which arrived just tonight and I still have the old filter. I set up the new one tonight and I used the same hoses as before, I never disassembled then from the last time. BUT I used a new canister and new impeller head. I plugged it in and this time it seemed it was making a lot more noise then the previous one. It was gurgling and making too much of a vibration noise, especially when it was emptying. I switched the new impeller head with the old impeller head. The old impeller head made a WORLD of difference. I have no idea why. One reason maybe that the old impeller head had at least one night to run and maybe smooth out any kinks on its on. I really don't know though, both impellers were brand new and undamaged. So I guess, try to return the impeller head you have and get a new one....for some reason they aren't all exactly the same.
