So I scored a 180 gallon setup for 200 bucks that came with an eheim 2227.. I've never had eheims so I'm wondering if it's a good one. It's listed as a wet/dry canister and it looks like a beast. Any thoughts?

Hopefully you got the instructions with it. Installation height is critical on this model as well as filter media. BTW, I have the 2229 model.

2227 and 2229 's are great bio filters they lack in the mechanical dept.
I run a 2229 and a 2028 on one of my tanks ...that way I cover both bases…

I would say the 2227 is too small for a 180. I run a 2229 and ac110 on a 100 gal.

yeah im gonna use fx5s i just wanted to know peoples opinions on it...since it only does biofiltration ill either use it on a smaller tank or sell/trade it

It's an unbeatable canister for bio. I run a prefilter sponge on the intake and only clean the thing once a year.
