i just recently acquire this used eheim ecco 2234 filtration system from a good buddy of mines.

it comes with a skimmer. and extra pieces for the system. how well would this work on a 40 gal acrylic. i'm looking to raise some arowana's pleco's and maybe some peacock bass.

i read through some threads that people run a powerhead with this filtration system. if necessary my friend has AquaClear 802 powerhead and AquaClear 201 powerhead. that i can get also. would these powerhead work?

its been a while since i had a tank. i use to have arowana's and flowerhorn's and some frontosa's.

any info will help.

I just got a 2232 and I love it. It should be fine.

OH wow.. he even gave u the surface extractor.. thats a booster on filtration.... u'll get more out of what eheim provides straight out of the box...

I would say use that for 40 is good.. but its design for a 60 gallon tank... 2236 are 80gallon or more...

It should be fine.. but look into a bigger tank.. surface extractors are design for bigger tanks... hence the huge drainer..

thanks. yea he bought this whole setup for his salt water tank. it was only a 12 gallon, but saltwater tanks need more filtration.

glad to know that this filtration system will work.

also no one has answered my question about a powerhead. wondering if its necessary

very necessary. ur filter was designed for a 60g, hence it will produce enough oxygen for ur stock. Perhaps, most filters are built in overflow and powerhead will just kill ur arowana, thats how mine died.

Best of luck on that filter.. eheim's are great
