Hey All,

Just bought an eheim 2260. The instructions are so-so. For all you Eheim owners, where does the "large seal ring" go?

I'm assuming in the crevice around the inside of the lid...if so it's a pain in the ass to close the top of the lid onto the canister when the seal ring is inside there so I haven't forced it yet. I'm assuming you really have to pack it tight inside the lid to fit properly. Thanks.

I placed mine around the outside of the bottom main bucket.seemed too big for the lid. so far no leaks.....it's been running for 2 days now.

I agree this was a gray area their instructions leave a lot to be desired.

I think I got it...if you turn the lid upside down...it goes around the inside crevice of the lid. Just have to unscrew the latches all the way up in order to get the lid to fit on top of the canister and then flip the latches up because now they should clear the lid and then screw them down.

I'll assume priming the darn thing is adding water to the canister and then closing the lid and then powering it on.

Yeah the instructions weren't that good.

You got it right mtbkr31, the seal goes in the crevice in the lid. That is the only way it will seal properly.

Do not fill the canister with water first. There is no reason to plus it makes it too heavy.

If you have the quick disconnect fittings installed on the hose, it is very easy to prime the canister. You can either -
One, prefill the intake hose with water at the sink, making sure the Q.D. is closed
OR
Two, have a pail ready & suck on the open Q.D. end of the intake hose when the intake J-tube is in the tank & direct the water into the pail until the hose is full of water and then close the Q.D.

Make sure the output tubing is secure inside the tank, open all the Quick Disconnects and the filter will prime with water. All the air will be evacuated from the filter and now you will be able to plug the cord into the wall outlet.

Thanks everyone. Deeda, yep I have the quick disconnect valves. Thanks for the tip to prime it. I'll setup the filter on Thursday when I get back from vacation...don't want to leave the Eheim running and there's a problem no one will be home.

I've heard that the valve seal on the drain tap goes bad over time on these filters. So is there a plug for the drain tap like they have on the FX-5 filters for the Eheim 2260's?

Thanks!

I've not ever heard of a problem with the drain tap seal leaking. It is actually an o-ring. Just make sure the fittings are hand tight snug when you assemble the filter. My 2260 has been in service for almost 5 years and I have yet to replace any seals.

What size tank is this going on? I've posted a few suggestions & pics for this model filter on this site. Just do a search to find them. Or ask as many questions as you want. Somebody is bound to answer them.

The instructions can be a little difficult to follow because of the language translation but assembly & maintenance are actually a breeze.

Hey Deeda,

This is going on a 220 gallon tank which has 2 FX-5's running on it. I've got a 22" Arowana and a bunch of Africans in that tank with some plants. I plan on get a biggr tank (400+) in a year or so.

I plan on the DYI on tapping off the mount plate for the pump so you're able to mount it sideways. Great tip!

Unfortunately I can't mount the spray bar because of my canopy's base is on each rear corner of the tank preventing the output elbow to sit flush in the corner. So I'll just have the output elbow as the output.
