I was searching online recently and noticed that quite a few online stores mentioned that the Eheim Classic 2260 is being discontinued in some parts of the world.
I have two of the these and I am quite surprised that this is happening as the new electronic models are just not as robust and have less filter flow and capacity.
The classic models are reknowned for their non stop year after year longevity.

we still have 2260 over here

I don't think they have been discontinued being produced by the company but only carried by some distributors. I'm sure that parts will still be available for any models that are discontinued for a reasonable amount of time.

The many other eheims that use a lesser flow rate, are done so, because biological filtration is more effective at slow flow rates.

That is true and must also be why the filter volumes are also greatly reduced.
2260, 23L volume, 1500L max aquarium vs 2080, 12L volume, 1200L max aquarium size.

Not that surprised since the 2260 was basically replaced by the updated 2262 with a larger pump and quick disconnects included.
