Just got a new tank it is a 450 gallon 96x36x30. Wondering if the two Eheim 2260 would work on it or should I use a sump? Also wondering if I could use them along with the sump?
2-2260's would be very awesome. A big 100g sump would be awesome also. I would weigh the cost, mostly the initial cost. Two 2260's will use A LOT of media especially if you go with Eheim Pro(36L@$30/L=$$$$) and they will use x amount of wattage. A sump will have but one return pump, useing x amount of wattage, costing at least $200(probably closer to $400). If your tank isnt drilled then you will need overflow boxes of some sort or DIY overflow. You still have to put media in the sump and plumb it all together...I think roughly, you would spend about the same, maybe a little more for the sump, but you will have better turnover with the right sized return pump and better flexability. The 2260's will only do 1000gph...maybe.Awesome filters, dont get me wrong(own one myself) but I am in fact switching over to a sump system for the flexability and better turnover useing only one pump.
Thats my 2¢.
On my 300, I use 2x2260's and a sump, but it all really depends on what your planning on keeping in your tank. If your going with just a few fish then it might be okay, but as your stocking level goes up then you might run into trouble. I changed the eheim pumps out for QuietOne 4000's so I could get more flow out of them.
Already have 2 x Eheim 2260. The tank has 2 overflow boxes with 2 x 1.5" holes and 2 x 2.5" holes in each overflow box. Trying to figure out how to get the tank up and running with the Eheim 2260s and plumbing in a sump with larger pump in the future.
