The top screen's legs are breaking off. every time I open up the canister another one is bent sideways or totally off.

when it first happened, I might've packed the fine floss too tight underneath it (thought it'd be ok, considering it's softness).
Then I reduced it but they keep breaking off, another every time I open the can. (I maintain my can fairly clean of nitrate-building sludge) Maybe once one was off, the unbalanced fit is causing more to break.?
Now the screen is so close to the lid that flow is slowing down.
These darn screens cost $30.00 to replace. I might try replacing with eggcrate for now, but that is half as thick as the screen, so probably have to stack 2 pieces for same clearance. I need the fine mech filtration underneath it.
Any other ideas, or think this will be ok
?

thanks.

never mind, I managed a Fix & flow is back at full throttle.

what i did was, i placed 2 peices of alumium between the lid and the screen replacing the legs and haven't had any problem since.. used it about 1 yr now without those legs.. don't know how it manage to break and where did it went to is the more important Question...

Ahhh, so I'm not the only one who had them break. now I don't feel so dumb. thought I had packed it very incorrectly.
but the plastic seems too brittle & now I'm not so sure it is all my fault. Last night when I opened the can, even some main lattice pieces around the outer circle were busted off.
strange you never found the legs.? my pieces are always right on top.
I cut & tied on 1 inch pieces of firm hose to replace the legs and water flows good now, but lattice is so broke to crap it should probably be replaced to guard any stray floss.
Next lattice I will tie my hose pieces on to cushion the legs' contact against lid.

do you shut off the filter when feeding?? i think 1/3 of my 2262s have that problem if i turn my pump on and off quite offen.. sometime if the floss are soo dirty that may cause it to have soo much pressure when starting that breaks the legs..

nope, never turn off to feed. just swivel the spraybar.
floss has never gotten dirty enough to change pressure in canister. I open up often to switch out the top floss, way more frequently than rinsing everything. it's an easy thing to do for water quality. seeing lots of grunge build-up creeps me out.
I probably packed floss too tight once, but remedied that at my next cleaning.
