Howdy,
That's a good question. Maybe you have already read
THIS and
THAT, and you have probably already read Craig's
DESCRIPTION
So far, it has been Eheim's philosophy to develop filters with (comparatively) low flow rates to allow longer contact time for water and media, resulting in optimum biofiltration. The 2262 offers higher turnover, effectively competing with the FX5 in the sector of mechanical filtration. I doubt that this increase in flow rate makes a difference in biofiltration considering the massive 18 liter filter media it holds. On the other hand, the xx60 motor has been around longer. The xx62 pump was only recently added to a canister. Thus, longevity of this set-up still has to be proven.
The 2262 is still almost twice as much $$$ as a 2260. With a few bucks more for a second media set, you could almost buy two 2260s for the price of one 2262.
It's a tough call, I am torn back and forth myself. I am looking into upgrading my 220 gal this Fall - right now, I am leaning toward two 2260s.
Good luck deciding, and let us know what you come up with.
