Eheim 2327 - freshwater/marine

I've seen one of these external wet/drys for sale at a good price, however they seem to have 2 versions of it. Freshwater and marine version.

I think the one I've seen is the marine version, but what on earth is the difference? Why is it not meant to be used for freshwater?
