Hey Folks,

I currently have a 75g tank with an AC 300, AC 150, and a sponge filter. I do waterchanges(30-50%) every 5-7 days. Thins sand bottom, has a little bit of hornwort growing in it, bunch of driftwood. Couple rocks. Occupants include: 4x 3-4" Silver Dollars, 1x 2.5" Firemouth, 1x 5.5" Excichlasoma Beani.

The aquaclears are hella easy to clean out (especially since I have a bin under the tank that drains to a floordrain, and I just syphon into there for waterchanges). Anyways, I would like to add some more horsepower to the system (and might subsequently drop the AC150). I want to get clearer water, I feel particulate is not getting caught well enough by the filters). Want to add a mid-sized eheim cannister (cause eheim is good stuff ofcourse). Thinking about a 2026? I like the look of the unit. Or maybe the professional series is a waste of money? Something that will work well pretty much!

Thanks for any suggestions.

Cheers,

Chris

I say go for it....

I'm setting up a 75gal now for my Oscar and will be using a Rena XP3 and two AC70's. If I didn't get such a good deal on the XP3 I would have sprung for Eheim 2217 !!

I'm not sure how the older models of the Aquaclear HOB filters are set up, so this might not work.

If your main goal is to eliminate fine particulate from your water, try adding some finer filter media to your current filtration first.

For instance, I have a tank that has an Emperor 280 HOB and a Fluval 405 canister. When I see a bunch of really fine particulate floating around in the tank, I have some 50 micron filter mat that I bought in bulk that I cut to fit in between the back cartridge and the front media tray on the Emperor. It clears up the water overnight and then it's easily removable for cleaning, storage, and later reuse whereas if I did the same with the canister, it would not be nearly as easy to put in and take out.

Take a look at the new eheim pro3 2075, its an upgrade of the 2028, comes with 4 trays, eheim media, 330 gph 16 watts only, you wont be disappointed.

I actually got a Pro2 series 2026 today used for 75 bucks, so thats what im going to try out! Im going to swap out some parts like the impeller and new hoses I think, considering the price it shouldnt be a big deal!

I hear 2217 often, maybe will try one of these out, or a newer pro series? Thanks folks :)

Chris

I started with a 2217 on a 75g and found it wasn't enough. I added a 2075 and I like it alot. The 2075 would probably be enough on its own.
