Hey guys - I recently picked up a classic.

I have everything I need. Except for the snap on lid that goes on the media basket.

Is the media basket necessary?

Could I Just not put a top on the basket?

Im not paying $30 online for a piece of plastic in a $90 filter.

Let me know if I salvaged something worth saving or not.

Thanks

I'm assuming you are referring to the 2213 Classic filter. You could always cut a piece of light diffuser grid (egg crate) to fit the top of the media 'basket' instead of buying the correct part. The only problem is how you will remove the media 'basket' when it's wet and full of media. The correct part has a handle built in.

You could always ditch the media 'basket' and buy a top & bottom lattice screen for the filter since Eheim now offers those parts. Unfortunately, they don't have the sponge inserts to fit the canister if you use the lattice screens. I just cut down the 2215 pads to fit my 2213 or you can use your own choice of media.
