quick question as far as my filtration for my newly establlished 125 SA tank,
would my eheim 2217 and cascade 700 work with eheims wetdry 2227 canister filter? what i mean is, since the 2217 is ment for 159 gal, the 700 is like 65 gal, the canister wet/dry is for 93 gals. would this be adequite as far as water quality in total? or would an XP3 be better than the eheim 2227?

thoughts are appreciated

Depends in what you want to stock.

Add up the total GPH, you should at least get 3x depending on what you want to stock.

for example if you're going to be heavily overstocked, you'll probably need more, but also, some species need more filtration, either because they're very messy (Oscars, Plecos) or because they're really delicate (Discus, rays).

Some people out there will tell you that you need at least 7x 10x turns, while the more is better, you'll probably dont need that much.

I have 100 gal with 2 oscars, 2 plecos, 2 piranhas and have a Resun 1200 and an Eheim 2217, and I'm doing fine with aprox 3-4x turns, but as my fish get bigger I will probably get another canisted or try to move some of them to a bigger tank (I hope)

Most filters are way over rated. I have Cascades so I will use them as an example. On my old 65g I used a 1000 and felt that it barely was enough with a comfortably stocked tank (NOT overstocked). When I ran it very understocked it ran fine, kept the tank clean.

On my 120g, I use two 1500's and they barely keep up with my moderately stocked tank and 3 water changes every week.

So I can pretty much tell you the 700 that is rated for a 65g is pretty much a joke. Maybe a 1500 with your Eheim 2217 might work, but my opinion is that it would need more.

I have not use the xp3, but I've heard some good things about it. I would be inclined to use two of them and the 2217 on the tank if it were mine.

ya, the 700 was just an added one for a little more gph but im not relying on it for all around filturation, thats why im probably going to concider running an xp3 or an fx 5 in unison with the 2217.

whats your thoughts on the fx5? theres some good deals on them at amazon.com which is the only reason im concidering somthing like it, if it wernt cost issued, id probably get a 2262 or so.

but FX5 with 2217 for a 125 gal, thoughts? :D :nilly:

I am totally looking at the FX5 for my new 210g. I would have considered it for my 120g but the stand had compartments that would not accommodate the width of the filter. Thus why I ended up with the super tall skinny Cascades instead.

alright then, ill see what i can do as far as the fx5. btw if youre pricing for one, amazon has them for 234.99 right now, new. idk how you are with ordering online but just my $.02! thanks for the imput guys :) :nilly:
