Hi.

I was wondering if anyone has experience with the 2229 wet&dry filters?

My new tank is around 1500L and will have high bio load. I already have x2 2180 Pro 3 thermo's for it but want another 2 canisters and cant decide if I'd be better with a x2 2229's or x2 2078 Pro 3e's.

I have 20Kg of BioHome plus and 10Kg of standard BioHome that will be my bio media. Can it perform well in wet/dry as I see most say its best when submerged.

Is there any real advantage to the 2229 over the 2078?

What are you trying to accomplish in getting another filter? Do you need more biofiltration --- i.e. are your ammonia and nitrite readings not at zero? Your tank may not be setup at all from what it sounds, but the two 2180s you already have can handle quite a bit of bioload!

If you are concerned about mechanical filtration, the wet/dry is not for you as there is no form of mechanical filtration in that model.

The tank will be stocked with black ray and Asian Arowana.

The ray will cause massive bio load and need perfect water quality. I was thinking along the lines of extra bio filtration but the 2078's will give me extra of both.

With the price of the fish stock I see no point in skimping on the setup but have no experience with the 2229 or any wet/dry canister and was just wondering how well they function and also how they would work with BioHome. I however presume that the 2078 will be as good as all other Eheim canister's of similar type.

My tank has not arrived yet but should be within 2 weeks. I was hopeing to order my filters for before the tank gets here.

I have the 2229 and it only holds about 6L of bio media. It is only for bio filtration as cchhcc said.

The only issue you might have is the installation heights. Out of the box, the filter must be within 100 - 120 cm (3' 3" to 3' 11") from water surface to bottom of the filter. There is an extra orifice (clear) packed in the parts kit that allows an installation height of 47" to 55". If it's not within these parameters, the filter will not fill up and empty properly.

I don't know what height your tank is from the floor and if you wanted to install it underneath the aquarium. Just thought I'd give you a heads up on this point.
