I have a new 75 gal tank and am interested in the Eheim heaters. I was told by Eheim that we could use a 300 watt heater or two 150 watt heaters.
Our house stays at 68 degress in the winter ( Oct-April) and in the summer we keep it at 76 degrees.
I thought we would need two 200 watt heaters.

Eheim suggested we talk to the people we were going to purchase the heaters from to get their input which I did. I like the idea of having two heaters. They will be run with an Inkbird.

What would you suggest we do? We want the tank to be 78-80 degrees

Also I see there is a Eheim Jager and a Eheim Jager Tru Temp Is one preferred over the other? It appears the Jager model is the older model but they are still available at many places.

Does anyone here have Eheim heater(s) on a 75 gal Tank?

I don’t have a Eheim but a lot of members prefer this brand. Also the tru temp has been recommended in the past. If u like the two heater option then go with it. Think you’d be fine with one or two for a 75g. Prefer two 150watt heaters. Think you’ll get the same life expectancy out of it like most heaters despite the wattage difference. But that’s imo.

I have two 300 watt ones on my 225, one at each end. Always better with two...more even heating and if one konks out you're still ok until you get a replacement. I'd say 300 watt would be overkill for a 75, two 200 watts should be fine.

I'd recommend getting a small immersible digital thermometer to make sure your temps are callibrated. They do it at the factory but after a few weeks one of mine got 'off' by nearly 3 degrees.

I have a bit larger tank, 120g, and my house gets much colder than that, sometimes under 60F with no central heating and I run a single 300w heater. It manages fine, maybe doesn't keep up on the coldest of nights and the temp drops a few degrees. Two would be a little better, but not enough to worry about.

But, really if you're going to run them on a temp controller you've got two levels of redundancy, so no need to keep the power lower in case one sticks on. And the difference between 200w and 300w is like...3 bucks? Go for a pair of 300s.

I also have a 120 Gal. Heated by a single 300w Ehiem-Jager.
The temp stays a constant 80 degrees. A very important component regarding constant aquarium heat distribution is a tight fitting lid.

Get 2 heaters plus a temperature controller. With a 1 degree drop, the controller will allow power to the heaters. Make sure to coat the temperature probe of the controller with silicone that is safe to be used for an aquarium.

Thanks everyone for all the tips. I am going with two Eheim 150 watt heaters for my 75.
I contacted several places and they all seemed to agree with Eheim and the two 150's.

I'll have to look into the silicone on the controller temp probe. What is the purpose of that? Is that to seal it or keep it from rusting? How much and how do you apply it?

Yeah, I think it's just to protect it, but you want to use silicone grease, not silicone caulk.

I just bought a used ehiem jager from a local aquarium store. And I have to say that heater is by far one of the best heaters I have purchased so far. It is over the temp gauge by about 3 degrees but idk if that’s due to being used or from factory. So just keep and eye on your temps and you won’t be disappointed
