How do these work and should I get one?

Yes they are good and i have one.on my 6 ft. realy put in a good burst of air into the water.

very simple just put it on the output hose for mixing air with the water output.

Yep just take the spray bar off fit it on and hang the air tube out side the tank simple, and a good back up if the air pump fails.

I have a few of those too and I recommend. If you want water flow only without the bubbles, you just take off the airline hose and completely submerge the diffuser. I run mine without an air pump and get aeration by leaving the diffuser nipple out of the water.
