I bought the one that doesnt come with media so I can put my nylon pot scrubbers to use. But do I still need ehfimech or can that be substituted with the scrubbies? If not what else can I use to substitute it?

Theres 3 baskets, the first one on the very bottom is "suppose" to be for the eheim ehfimech + blue filter pad, 2nd and 3rd are for biomedia. Does it matter which basket I put the scrubbies in? Which ones do I put it in?

Also how hard should I stuff the scrubbies? Or do they just sit on top of each other nicely?

Fluval Mech is pretty cheap.

I would have bought the package deal. While pot scrubbies are good, they aren't as good as ehfisubstrat pro.

Well I dunno, I read that pot scrubbers have tha most surface area and the best bang for the buck. Why I didnt buy the canister + media included combo was because the canister was already $313 tax included, that was my limit, plus, pot scrubbies are better than most media out there for the price. Correct me if im wrong.

Pot scrubbers have a good surface area, but not the best. Far from it in fact. It does have the best surface area for the dollar, but that is assuming you have space to make up the lost amount. Ehfisubstrat pro is one of the best, however there is one that has even more surface area. Cell-pore.

Howdy,

using pot scrubbers in a canister is a major waste of filter space. You would have to compact them beyond what's possible to even use them as coarse filter floss (blue pads). They have next to no biosurface as compared to other media, even EhFiMech.

Bottom line: If you ask where to put your pot scrubbers: In the kicthen or in your sump if you have a w/d. They are worthless in a canister.

I just got a 2217 with media for $119 free shipping, no tax from Big Al's. Same filter, older design. Just add a heater for $15. If your budget is as tight as you say it is, this would have been a better choice ...

I got a 2028 with media for 175 from my LFS. I think you over paid for the filter.

Yea, but I dunno I wanted the newer models. How bout if I put it pot scrubbers, and in the empty gaps I stick in ehfisubstrat?

For my exact model 2128, theres none in the 2 bill range. =]
