hey, so i bought the ehiem filter about a year and a half ago.. and recently after i took it out for a wash.. it started leaking from the seams of the filter.. (between the head and the body)
and i have read it might be replaceable but im not even sure if thats the problem..

was wondering if anyone can help me take a look if anyone has time cause im tight on money at the moment and i dont wanna buy pieces that i dont need.

thanks ahead of time.

Tom.

The leak is probably from the canister gasket. Try using a little bit of vaseline on the gasket before you replace it. The other place it could be leaking from is the 2 gaskets found on the removable clip on the motor head.

Leakages are usually the result of worn sealing rings so I'd check for that first and replace just the ring if that was the case. Did you buy the filter new or used? 1.5 years is short life span for a seal ring IME. I don't own the same model, but have 5 classic ones. Good luck.

I'm awaiting on a new seal ring on one of the double-tap to arrive. A new rubber band is in its place now and has been doing a wonderful job for the past 3 days :)

Silicone is not a valid product to use as an o-ring in that application.

Hm... You may:
a. buy a new seal ring
b. make sure the old seal ring is installed just right, when I reused my old seals they have these indentions in them and just make sure they all line up.
Do not use silicone

i find that after an extensive use of eheim's o-rings it will eventually ware out. i hear pros like says from few companies like eheim and coralife that by doing what joe jaskot said "Try using a little bit of vaseline on the gasket before you replace it." works fine.. i also tried a few times is boil a cup of hot water and putting the o-rings into the hot water for 5 mins will let the o-ring's rubber expand to it's original form.. my 2260s i do it all the time when i see that after a year of use.. i would keep a record how long i have done those process and that o-ring isn't cheap either.
