eheim pro II filter media help

Canada... i wish.
hey everyone, i am buy a pro II next weekend and i was wondering what kind of filter media i should buy. :confused: i need something that is going to keep the water in my tank clear and stuf. thanks
 
You need to get the filter pads from Eheim. They fit nicely and prevent bypass. I've tried to DIY some, but it's not worth it.

As for the biomedia, you need something porous and reusable. I would use Eheim rings at the bottom (with the coarse Eheim sponge from the pad set on top) and Substrat Pro in the top two baskets (with the fine pad from the set on top of that). There are lots of cheaper options for biomedia though. Seachem Matrix or deNitrate would be cheaper, but I prefer the Eheim products, and once you buy it you pretty much don't have to replace anything but the pads.
 
depend what filtration you want.
If you want clear water I would go with mechanical filtration but if you want good healty water with low ammonia I would go with biological filtration.
but because you are asking i would say that you are new to filtration so i would say fifty-fifty.....
go with mechanical and biological filtration.
so u have to buy some fine foams,bio rings/balls,polishing pads and that should be okay.

well i am new to canister filters.. ive always used HOBs so yeah.. what do polishing pad do?
 
Bottom tray is Ehfimech with blue filter pad on top under the handle. Top two trays both filled with Ehfisubstrate, or substrate pro, white filter pad on top. Do not put the top filter pad under the basket handle!
