Hey everyone, i have a couple questions on this unit. In the description of it, it says the unit is 20-1/2" tall, but I am not sure if includes the hose inlet/outlets. Could someone measure theirs for me from bottom to the very most top part of the unit? I only have so much room in my stand and I want to be sure that it would fit. Also, please give me your reviews on the Eheim and how long you have been running it?

Also, right now I run an FX5 and when my mechanical filtration pads start to get dirty, the unit starts to pull air in from somewhere. Its not on the hose connections, so its either around the lid or where the pump mounts to the canister. When it starts spitting out these mirco fine bubbles it makes the tank water really look cloudy which I cant stand. So I think I might make the switch to the Ehiem cause I want to use the Canister for both biological and Mechanical filtration, which I really cant seem to do with my FX5 without that problem.

Thanks everyone

You happen to know where to find that review?

Heres another question: What is the difference between the Pro 3 and Pro 3e?

right hear we go

their a 3 x pro3s on the market now

the pro3 2080 13 liters of media 1700 lph the big boy of the bunch
the pro3e 2078 8 liters of media 1850 lph lots of electronic stuff wave maker flow aduster sevice indecator all elctronic
the pro3e 2076 no idear about this i dont own one

eheim 2080 2 x intake pipes
eheim pro3e 2078/6 1 x intake pipe

all depends what you want faster turn over or more media

all are great filter

For me, I have a huge wet/dry for bio right now. So I would turn it into a mostly mechanical, just guessing the one with the bigger media space might be the ticket. Anyone use canisters for predominatly for mechanical and how do you set it up?

For more mechanical you would want the highest GPH possible and most mechanical media space. I'd look over each one to see which one handles the most mech out of all them, my two cents though I think the pro 3e 2078 is a awesome innovation in canisters, and it also has a built in 500 watt heater.

You mean the Pro 3 model 2180 thermofilter, which has the built in heater. Niether the Pro 3e 2076 or 2078 have thermofilter models as of yet. But yes, I would have to agree. They are awesome inovations. Eheim seems to have excellent filters. I run a Pro II 2128 thermofilter and a FilStar XP3 with a Hydor inline heater on my 125 gallon tank. I'm looking to replace them with a Pro 3 2180.
