not sure if it's even a good idea to run the 2 inline with each other
i'm new to the whole fish keeping deal so any advice is much appreciated

the chiller is a
1/4hp ecoplus chiller and the filer is a eheim pro3e

tank size is a 72 gallon
(i know the chiller is a bit much but i got it for 60 bux)

The discharge line through the chiller will slow the flow down a bit but I dont see why you couldnt. I'm running an Eheim 2250 through a UV sterilizer with no probs whatsoever. Doesnt the pro3e have an internal heater? Make sure you dial that down or the two could be counter-productive.
Now, if the chiller has its own circulation pump that is integral to the unit, you will run into problems. You stated 1/4hp, is that for the circulation? Enlighten me. Also, if the chiller is rated for a much lower flow than the output of the Eheim, then the chiller may not work as it should or be as efficient.

like i said im new to all this
