Absolutely. I would clean with bleach water and let it air dry throughly. It will be fine.

Think it will be ok using bleach? I'd be afraid, that even with soaking, I wouldn't thoroughly flush all the bleach out of the material being that it has so many minute chambers. I was just going to do multiple soak/rinse cycles in fresh water.
Why use bleach? You could boil it, though. It's just ceramic.

If you use bleach, it is recommended to rinse thoroughly (obviously), but then let the media soak for 24 hours in in a strong solution of and something like Prime
