I just picked up a 150 and want to get an eheim thermofilter so i'd have less clutter in the tank. The heater is only rated at 210 W but it says the filter is good for up to 158 gallons. I was planning on running the eheim 2128 along side a fluval fx5. I dont think thats enough to heat my 150 especially since its going to be in my garage for a couple of months until the renovations are done in my house. It doesnt get freezing cold here in the bay area but winter is approaching. Do you think i need 2 eheims to properly heat my tank?

Definitely! In a heated room I'd say give it a shot with just one. Might work, might be a close call. But in a garage with low temp peaks when the car drives in and out, you need at least double the heating power. Skip the FX-5 and get a second Eheim. That's a better idea anyhow ;) ;) ;) If you're set on your original plan, just get a simple heater while the tank is in the garage.

^you mean like a small portable heater?

I think what HarleyK means, is just to add another heater to your tank while its in the garage. Than when you bring it indoors, you can take it out.

Exactly. Just a regular aquarium heater. You are concerned about clutter in your tank, but it won't be the center showpiece while it is sitting in the garage anyways. And with heated indoors, you may be fine with just the Eheim filter heating the tank.

actually you know what. i just realized that the room the the tank is going in to is similar to the garage. its an extension to the back of my house that isnt insulated. do you get what i mean? we're redoing the floor in that that room. anyway i think i'll go with 2 eheims. or maybe even get it drilled for a huge wet/dry
