its a long one....so please bare with me.....
scored a cheap pro3 2080 off craigslist a while back and have had it running with no problems for a month or so
today was clean filters day - so i look at the tank/filters and decide to start with the eheim - and notice that it is not pushing out any water - power source fine, tubes/connections/etc all fine --- plug in/out, and its clear the motor/impeller is not running
question 1:
does the pro3 2080 have a safety auto-shutoff / cool off system integrated?
ok, so i resume filter maintenance and begin to take apart the eheim to inspect the impeller/etc....
1) i notice it is smoking from the impeller, and the chamber is hot once i pull the impeller out
2) i take apart the impeller assembly "area" - just down to where you can take off the 4 screws and take off that outer housing (which i obviously discovered leads to nothing...)
so - i put it all back together, put the hoses back in, release the safety lever, and it fills back up - but.....it begins to pour out of the top
i assume i didn't tighten down the 4 screws enough, or that some seal was off or something, so i take the top motor off and crank down on the screws and make sure it seals up properly
upon re-connect, and open lever - water only comes in to a certain point - enough to fill the pre-filter basically, then stops
im slightly baffled - so i take the top off again, and realize i probably shouldn't crank down on the 4 screws and that corresponding seal too tight - and loosen them up a tad
at this point - i put it all back together, and it all runs again like normal....no more leaks, and the filter is running as it did before i noticed it had stopped
question 2:
- the 4 screws on the housing --- does their level of tightness inhibit flow of water from the top prefilter down?
- should i assume the filter will no longer leak?
- why did the filter start to leak/pour water out between top and bottom?
