EHEIM Wet/Dry Canister Filter
Anyone have it?

Do you suggest it over a normal wet/dry sump filter?

I am thinking about getting on so I just wanted some reveiws.

Rockin. That is good news. The used tank I am purchasing already comes with an FX5, and I wanted to run a sump wet/dry as well. Once I started adding up all of the needed stuff to get one running, it was getting really expensive. Can pay less and get all I need to start up with the Eheim Wet/Dry. Probably a lot easier to clean too.

I was thinking the 2229, but noticed there is no mechanical filtration. So it is purely biological? Can you put in something to do some solid waste mechanical filtration?

If not, I should be ok, I will have the FX5 running too and I could always just add some more mechanical filtration to that.

"In order to guarantee the synchronized functioning of the wet/dry filter, use only the enclosed original parts. Changes should not be made in the intake or output areas. In all media containers of the Eheim 2229, only use Substratpro or Ehfisubstrat. If other medias or substrates are used, the filter may not function correctly and may shut down. It is also recommended that nothing (prefilter, UV, etc.) should be hooked up to the filter intake or outlet."

Seam like a seperate mechanical filter is need, so sounds like the FX5 will take care of that for you. Sounds liek an great combo

EHEIM filters are very good, reasonably priced and very easy to maintain...
