Ehiem 2215 PLUS

I just bought one of these like 2months ago for my 55gallon. And it seemed ok for about a month and then I noticed it started to slow down. So I cleaned it and that seemed to fix it. A week later I was looking at it and it wasent sucking or pumping out water like it was. My question is the next time I clean it how do you guys go about cleaning your Ehiems. IM about to take out some of the media and just stuff it with foam. And is there a ez way to prime this one??

Congratulations on a great classic. I have the 2211 and 2217.

If you have problems with the flow-rate, check your valves first: Are they completely opened? All 4 of them?

Priming is easy when you leave the outlet filled with water. Since you have the PLUS< you also have the quick-attach connectors, which makes it real easy. Just make sure the inlet (=spraybar) is not submerged or still filled with water.

Filling this filter with foam is a waste of biofiltration. Make sure to have it filled properly with EhFiMech and EhFiSubstrat, with a light cover of floss. Also, make sure no floss can enter the impeller. A loss in function might be caused by exactly that. I recommend you take the imeller assembly apart, clean it real well with a tiny brush, and re-assemble it.

I have no clue about your water, but the hoses may have biofilm built-up in them. If that is the case, simply clean them.
