I'm going to heavily plant a 55g soon and I've heard all sort of good things about Ehiem filters. I'm planning to keep neons and amano shrimps inside. Can anyone suggest a model?

Yes I can. An Eheim 2215. No need for a larger one or a wet/dry model since there will be little fish and shrimp.

2215 thats it? Thats like the same as AC 30.

How is the eheim 2215 the same as a AC30? The 2215 is a canister and the AC30 is a hang on back.

Eheim make a great product, I am running a pair of them on my 120 gallon A pro 2226 and a pro 2 2026. That 2215 would be more then enough for your 55 gallon.

A 2215 or a 2026 or even a 2076 will be great. Really the filter doesn't matter too much on a planted, most of the need is for a mech filter for a planted tank.

Right for the the planted. That's why I said 2215. Good add though. You too bderek. ;]

All filters will have their flow rate affected by time, as well as when media is added, and tubing, and elbows. Eheim's have the best pumps for canisters, and will not quit, and can push water through with the least effect of all the filters I have run.
