I have a 240 tall with a huge sump, what is better to fill the sump with

Rena Filstars
Ehiem Substrate
bioballs

or can i use all three money is no object.

I am thinking filling it up with 20 gallons of Ehiem Substrate would be cool and amazing filter setup. Same with black rena filstars would that also have way more surface area than bioballs.

Also i have the ehiem sponges they look like scour pads for pots, well i have 20 of them where do these go in my huge ultimate filter

ps it has a skimmer and refuguim but since i am making it an amazon river setup should i just not use these things.

Need tank to house 4 Payaras all 15 to 18 inches!

I would use a mixture of the three personally. The stuff to look at though is Cell-pore. That stuff is amazing, but costly. Skip the skimmer, but use the refugium, just with FW plants.

Thanks man my bro thats setting it up says not to use the reguim for my fresh water but i was also thinking of having a massive amount of java moss just growing wild an i could start a java moss selling bussiness!
Well he thinks if he plugs it all up and stick to the 2 overflows and the huge 30 gallon sump and Iwaki 30 on there it will be good.

Still anybody say go with total ehiem substrate for best filter, i also was thinking have all three plus the sponges

If you really want to grow java moss too, set up a tank on the return side of your filter, supplied by your filter and feeding your show tank. Light the tank well and use this to grow your java moss. Screen the output to your show tank well and your show tank should always be algae free.

If money is no object, then definately Eheim Substrate as the surface are for bacteria to colonize is much higher. There's not use mixing them cos you won't get any additional benefit ... the bacteria is all the same.

If money is no object than not eheim substrat pro at all. Cell pore is about the best I have found for bio-media. however, for a large wet dry you could easily be talking $350 or more just for the bio media.

I checked out that cell pore its awesome. How much better would you think it is compared to Rena Filstars and ehiem substrate. Since i already have a few hundred filstars and a few pounds of substrate.
If it was absolutely very much better i would just buy it instead! I saw the price on a quart of cubes awooooo that would be awesome and i bet it would cost 400 to fill my wetdry.

That's why people use pot scrubbers instead :D

Cell-pore is amazing stuff. The slab can hold a gallon of water. Saw a demo of it from a cell-pore guy, and he took one slab and a gallon of water. Held the cell-pore up in the air and poured the water on top of it. When all of it was emptied into the cell-pore only a SLIGHT trickle was formed.

Pot scrubbers are also really good.

i got the ehiem pot scrubbers they were on special at my lfs abouut 10.

Where do they go in the wetdry! I will be putting scrubbers, bioballs, bioplastic rings, renafilstars, ehiem substrate, and peat.

Should really work well, i am going to seed the tank with amazon rain and black water extract along with a bioload bottle!

The tank is tall like 30 inches and 18 inches wide is that better? seems to me i would rather have the regular 8 by 2 by 2.
