good question. im lightly planted too, and ive wondered the same thing. i just stick to the 50% water change and fertilize as directed. i dont really think you can have problems from too many nutrients. i think youll have algae problems when your nutrient levels are low...
what i do is cut back on ei its set up for a heavy platned tank if it isnt i cut it in half.... so if it was a 100 gal tank i would add the ferts for a 50 gal tank.... 50% is fine if you want to do more its not going to harm anything too badly.

This is what I was planning on doing. I have been reading alot about this, and have learned that even at 0% uptake with 50% water changes you can only get a conentration of double what your dosing.
yes but that might still cause problems with algae no tank is the same i just tell you what i do it might work fine i could be wrong but i feel its better not to get algae then get it and battle it. good luck with what ever way you try.
