In this economy, it seems irresponsible to bear any unnecessary exepense such as a high electric bill monthly. Is $100 consider pretty high for 4 tanks running but only two tenants?

$100 electric + $27 water = $127 monthly.

2 people, 7 Tanks, avg. $250-$300 per month

My electric Is also around 100 - 150 depending, on the month. I have been slowly but steadily upgrading and swapping out equipment for lower wattage equipment.

A canister if you can use it always uses less power then a sump. I have a sump but my pump is only using 84watts of electricity. I Insulate the tank and the sump to try and keep heat in to save on heating cost. I only turn the tank lights on when feeding or looking at the fish.

I looked into using Algae or plant filters to reduce the ammount of water I need to change. But this cost more then just doing weekly 50% WC. When doing water changes I mix hot and cold water to save on reheating the tank.

how much are you paying per kilowatt hour?

its easy to compute exactly how much your tanks are costing you in terms of electricity. it is usually every little, most of your bill is from other things running, not your tanks..

I avg for 2 people gas and electric for 9 tanks 200. I think you bill is incredibly reasonable

i pay around 80-90 every month in my new house, 4 tanks running. plus a fountain. my wife and i are faaaar from energy efficient, so that aint bad.

hard to compare different parts of the country. I work for Southern Co that covers parts of GA AL MS FL. Wouldnt consider that high at all.

I pay 4.5 cents kwh, god bless canadian price ceilings!

With MH lights on the reef its about $80 a month.
