Hi i have 2 acara breeding pair and noticed that one eye is cloudy and has small white peice hanging down. They are about 3 inch long. I have a 300l tank with 2 breeding angels that are 3inch aswell could it have been atacked. I have attached 2 photos but they are not very clear . Thanks for your help.

Hmm that's a tough one to treat with eggs in the tank. Melafix might not harm the eggs. Methylene blue won't in proper doses. But I'd lean towards a bacterial infection, so when possible I'd remove the fish and treat in a hospital tank. Or I'd remove the eggs and treat the tank with an antibiotic.

Looks like an abrasion like the Acara scraped the eye on something. Its hard for me to tell are the eggs fertile? If so just keep up with the wc's.

Yea eggs are fertile i have no other problem with any other fish my water changes are regular the store has check the water and said its ok. Could it still be an infection

Is possible there was a scuffle to protect the eggs. Most cichlids go for the eyes in a fight (Africans certainly do) I have seen new worlds do it as well (not acara but cichlids are what they are.) I would go with tlindseys advice and keep the water as pristine as you can.

I agree, remove the fish and place it in a hospital tank and treat with Fishbiotic's Penicilin until it clears up. Penicilin is good for Gram+ and Gram- bacteria, and works on most eye-affected conditions....

....unfortunately it also kills Beneficial Bacteria thus the need for a hospital tank

Ho thanks for all your replies what you are saying binge would make sense as i have 2 breeding angels in the tank i bought these fish didnt expect one to breed but by luck i got acara and angel paired up. They get very angry when breeding and chase each other how do i stop them breeding as this may calm them down.

A divider would allow them both to breed in harmony, but they are breeding because they're happy! Stress would be the way to stop it, but I wouldn't recommend that.

Lol i think it may be the male after observing the male has taken complete control of the eggs and wont let the female near it. As soon a it gets sight of her it chases her away. Thanks for all your help people.
