As the title states, I'm setting up an Acara tank for my daughter. I picked up 5 fry at less than 1/2" for $1.99 a pop. They're going in a 55g tank after they put on about an inch or so in size. Would all 5 be alright in the 55g with each other? Or should I let 2 pair off and donate the other 3? It's going to be a species tank, and these are her favorites. :p

I'd say give the 5 a go, especially if they grow up together there is a pretty good chance it will work. Would be cool to have a small shoal of them, very pretty fish

I think it would work and would be a nice looking tank with some dithers and Cory cats

Yeah it will work. I had a pair that spawned and now I have about 100. I divided them in a few tanks to grow out. Some are approaching 3 inches. Some are still really small. It's funny how fast some will grow and others just stay little.
They all get along fine. I will try to post a few pictures.

They're super pretty, and TINY. It's kind of funny, I may go pick up some more and see what happens. They were in the bag for about 6 hours yesterday, and fell off the kitchen counter to the floor because my son wanted to see the bags. So far they're all still alive and well, but only time will tell. It shook them up pretty good.

Wow Big-G! That's a ton of Acaras! Pretty cool to see that you are that successful at breeding them.
They are beautiful fish and always attract a ton of attention. $1.99 each seems to be a pretty good deal for the fry. I think around here that the LFS' charge around $20 each for these fish, which just seems unreasonable but I'm not trying to keep a fish store open either. Good luck with them!

Yeah the LFS near me has been selling them for me. Friends of mine, I just gave them some to help them out. They are selling them for $8 . The local pet smart sells a two inch for $20.

The picture of the pack together is just one tank. I have them in three tanks like that. lol

I had thrown some food in there for the picture that's why they are all on top of each other.

They usually have them at $25.99 for 2-3" ones at my only LFS. I've never bought any for that reason. I'm going to pick up 5 more today on lunch.
