Electric blue acara scratch?

So today I saw a deal I couldn't pass up. Electric blue acara about 2 inches long for 2 bucks. Picked up a few and noticed in the bag they have some chunks and scratches on their head. What is this?

Looks like typical nicks/scrapes associated with catching/bagging pet store fish. Clean water and routine maintenance should resolve this quickly.

I agree with probably them being overcrowded and hitting decor or being netted carelessly. Scraped some of their scales off, usually goes back to normal in a few weeks of good care

It looks like HITH. I see it a lot on acaras that have been kept in LFS for a while. It's likely due to poor water quality and nutrition. Get them on a good quality pellet and keep their water changes frequently, and hopefully it goes away on its own.

Been about a week and it's already looking better, water changes and hikari pellets did the trick
