Saw them for the first time yesterday at a fish store. My T. ellioti died while I was at school it seems, so my 75 has room for another cichlid. I doubt I'm finding another T. ellioti as I got that in NJ, but I'm considering the acara because of similar temperament, and the fact that it seems acaras world in a planted tank. Also, its aesthetically similar to my EBJD, and my other cichlids have an aesthetically pleasing "buddy", so I figure its decent on that side of things.

I can't seem to find any info on species for these guys though, or even max size or pictures of adults. All I can tell so far is that it looks like a bigger blue ram.

There are several threads about them here if you look around. They've only been on the market since earlier this year and there isn't really any information on them. They do appear to be blue acaras or something similar (Andinoacara pulcher, maybe A. latifrons, maybe a hybrid of a few species) and are growing out just as normal blue acaras would.

I was just in Something Fishy in the Cleveland area this weekend (Dave took a Midas off of my hands for me) and saw the EBA for the first time as well.

He had them beside a tank of EBJDs and since I know have a 55gal sitting emtpy I am stopping by his shop again to pick up one of each and let them grow out.

I will ask him about his experience on how "electric" the Acara stays as it matures and report back.

Well I picked up the EB Acara, EBDJ and 10 small tiger barbs to place in my 55 gal grow out tank last night.

Talked with the owner of Something Fishy about the Acara and what to expect to see as it grows.

Unfortunately he doesn't know either; he said he took one of them home to his personal tank to see how it will end up looking as an adult.

With these being so new on the market only time will tell - from what I have been able to find they only started becoming available about a half a year ago. Only time will reveal what they will look like as adults at this point; I am going to keep searching though. :D

No one really knows what the adults look like because they have only been on the market since the late summer.

As with most new color variants that come out of Asia, no information has been presented about their creation, their breeding, or what the adults look like. It's up to hobbyists to grow them out.

Mine have started developing black edged scales and they show a dark gray/black in the dorsal and anal fins now. This could be because I moved them into a larger tank with other cichlid tankmates and they've taken on more of a defensive coloration (much like barring or spotting on other acaras). Hopefully the color doesn't continue to fade. It may just darken like the EBJD do.
