Electric blue acara

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I suggest adding a sponge filter to the main aquarium to be seeded. A bare bottom 10 gallon will be needed. If you have patience to give your pair a shot of rearing the fry I personally would.

Congrats

You didn't have to put them in a egg tumbler and if they are free swimming they need food asap pulverize a couple of pellet or flake food.

Guys I know full well all of this but let me explain. The tank they are in is my 65 gal tank I’m transitioning into a South American tank. Other than my colony of plecos in there I have 2 other electric blue acara and 3 neon blue Malawi peacocks whom were already picking off the wrigglers as it was difficult for the parents to protect them all from the peacocks and the other acaras. As I don’t have a 10 gal currently up and running I opted for my egg tumbler which would keep them in the tank with proper temp and allow for constant flow of water into it. This tank has a fluval 406 which the intake for is right behind the pleco cave innwhich these for spawned. So they would have eventually got sucked in. On the other side of the tank I have a submersible filter which they too would get sucked into if parents moved them over there.

I ve been feeding them new spectrum grow starter food which is 200-300 micron particles. I should revise my statement I need to figure out an easier method for feeding them. As I have to remove the tumbler open it put the new spec in and then close it and let it sit for a few mins out of the tank so it can fall to the bottom then I replace it back into the tank and turn the airstone off so it doesn’t push the food out and hen eventually I slowly turn the stone back on. I have started to resettup both of my 10 gal tanks that I have In hopes to use them both in growin these fry out. They have substrate however so barebottom is out of the question as it would be too much hassle to clean the sand out as it’s a fluorite sand as I was growing plants in both of them for another tank that I have and since moving the plants i haven’t needed them sonshut them down and this spawning js actually rarely quick as i ve only had them about 2 weeks.

Will keep this thread updated tho. I wanted to allow the parents to raise them but under the conditions it wasn’t going to be fruitful. It was already stressful watching my countless pleco try to gorge on the eggs and to my surprise be fought off by the parents. But 2 is not enough to fight off 5 other cichlids. I ve raised red jewels in this manner before as well however I had my 10 gal as a barebottom ready to go as it was originally a quarantine tank at that time.

Ok now I get it. I'll be waiting for updates.

Present update I know it’s soon - they re all eating very well. The father is standing guard and floats around the tumbler vigilantly day and night and still is trying to figure out why he can’t get his babies (a bit disheartening to see). My 2 10 gals are up and running I ve dumped about 40 gals worth of colony into both tanks and have throw in a 60 gal sponge filter in both of them. Have a 15 gal hob running on one with sponge tied to the intake. Have used seeded media and have also added 2 medium sized stones from my 125 gal cichlid tank to them as well. I’m doin to run this for the day and I have some filter floss that I pulled out of my fx6 and will drop some of the sludge waste into both tanks twice today (not a lot). I ve done similar practices on other tanks to get them cycled and safe for my fish before when settin up 40 breeders. Usually the tanks are ready to go within 12 hours minimum as I ve never tested it under a shorter time frame nor do I really want to experiement with shorter time frames as 12 hours is rarely short as is in my eyes.

Good to hear.:) What are you going to do with the fry?

I ve got a great relationship with 2 of my LFS here so I ll offer them to them. As I have in the past with other breeding projects I ve done. Diff types of platys / red zebra cichlids / OB peacocks / demasoni. Currently I have Ethelwynnae Peacock fry / OB peacock crossed with Redshoulder peacock fry I’m growing out. And I’m trying to breed an green phantom plecos / Blue phantom plecos and growing out some gold nuggets to hopefully attempt to breed as well. I produce enough to help pay for some of my hobby costs. But lately my focus has been plecos they don’t get instock a lot due to lack of supply.

Hi, I was wondering if you could help me, do your electric Blue Acaras go pale and have a black horizontal strip along the side? Is it both male and female that do this or just the females?

Thanks in advance
