I was at an lfs looking at electric blue acaras and was wondering if they and rams have the same problems as dempseys? Not interested in them, just a curiosity.

I wish I could find the electric blue acaras. No one around here has seen them on lists yet.

I know tons of people who've had bad experiences with EBJD but the electric blue rams don't seem that much worse than your typical aquarium-bred blue or gold ram. I had some young ones that were doing really well until my water went wonky and killed most of the stuff in my house. A few stores near me have the electric blue rams and even they look good, which is rare IMO for an LFS ram. I was really tempted to pick up more this past weekend but the store I was at wanted $36 a piece! That's higher than I paid for them when they first came on the market a few years ago.

Another interesting thing about the rams is that they breed true. The EBJD are not so cut-and-dry. I'd love to work with the EB acaras to see how sturdy they are, and if they breed true.

I just realized you live fairly close to me, Ryan. :) I live in Davenport, near Orlando.

Anyways, I would also like to see how the electric blue acaras breed. I have only seen pictures. None of the stores I have been to or spoken with have even seen them on their lists of fish available to order.

^ Someone got some from an LFS in Sarasota but they were out and none of my local stores have been able to track any down. Segrest Farms had them for a brief time but I spoke one of my local LFS's Segrest rep and he said they didn't have them anymore and didn't know if/when they'd get more. So either there are other distributors with them or some LFS still have the initial stock from Segrest.

I'm sure that like rams they will slowly make their way into the hobby. I found a thread about "neon blue acaras" from as far back as last year so they've been around longer than I realized.

Good to know about the rams. Might be upgrading my planted tank to a 75 and trying discus, electric blue rams will be a nice contrast if I get red discus.
