I have an "electric blue crayfish" (I don't know if that's what it actually is, but that's what it was labeled at my lfs). Right now, it is in a ten gallon tank with a beta and a small bristlenose pleco. They are doing fine and have been in there together for almost a year. I am currently looking to move the cray to my 29g tank. I was wondering what fish or other inverts I could put with it. Anybody done this? Any ideas?

I have cobalts and crayfish. I like to keep them alone. When they molt fish tend to pick on them or eat them and then the lobsters will catch anything that can fit into their mouths. I find it tends to work better as a species only tank.

Most species labeled as Electric Blue are agressive toward fish. You could add just about anything with them, but they may get picked off by the crays. I'd try some small fast community fish. Really you can try just about anything, but just go into it knowing that the fish might end up being a cray snack. Never know though, you might come up with a good combo that works out long term for ya.

I'd stay away from any fish that tends to also be agressive or semi agressive, cause they are more likely to kill your cray when it moults (Cichlids, Tiger Barbs, etc).

My Marbled Crays eat any snail they can get their claws on, and snails aren't exactly known for speed. ;) Crays can chew right through their shells (even MTS), so they are pretty much defenseless.

Not sure on other cray types. If you want to try, I'd treat it the same as fish. It might work, but go into it knowing it probably wont.

Crays will most likely eat any type of snails you house with them. As far as tankmates, why not try a few different species to add more color, P.clarkii can have a wide range of color from white to blue and there are many cherax species that would look good as well such as the tiger lobster etc.Self cloners would look good as well. At any rate crays will eat anything they can catch but mostly scanvange off the bottom and most fish are to fast to be eaten, if anything worry about the cray being eaten while molting. Just make sure to have lots of hiding places..

Don't house invertebrates with crayfish. They'll get eaten in most cases and they can carry diseases and parasites that can kill off your crayfish.

Generally, Electric Blues are Procambarus alleni and those are fairly fish aggressive. I'd stick with very small, fast fish or larger armored fish. I did some nice tanks with Hoplo cats and Tetras, but almost all other combinations ended up with fish becoming lunch.

Well, I decided to put fish in my 29g so my cray is going to stay in my 10g tank with my male beta and bristlenose. Has anybody put a beta with a cray? I was talked into getting the beta and really thought there was no chance of it working. Here they are, almost a year later and still working great.

I've heard of people keeping piranha successfully with these
