Hello all! I have an electric blue holding. This is at least Her Second time. She used to be in a 180 with some fronts. I took the tank down and found a couple of fry. She is in a 100 gallon now. She has been holding for at least a week. I do not have a tumbler, have been meaning to order one. How long will She hold? When should I strip? Is it to late?
Thanks for the help!
John

USE SMALL FLOWER POT.... sorry bout caps lock

Holding? Are they mouth brooders?

I had my electric blues have eggs too, I waited 2 weeks and stripped her and put the babies in a 20 gallon by themselves, they are about an inch long now after a few weeks.

Apparently I am missing something...

Are Jacks mouth brooders? Because if they are, then I've got my jack protecting some Earth eater eggs. haha!

haha why wouldn't you just retype what you said without the caps instead of apologizing? :) found it quite funny.

as for the holding blue, how long do you think she has been holding? I know some will stop eating and starve themselves for a long time if you don't intervene. I haven't done it myself since I can't seem to get any fry from my Africans, but you should try this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=deJJNyxaFyY

depending on size, I have seen some use a swab to get them out too

In a couple of weeks you should see the babies in the mouth. No longer orange eggs. Thats when I strip them, when i know they hatched. Normaly i use a Bic pen cap. The small end to pry mouth open gently, she will spit them out. Good luck and what fun.

That is interesting, I have never had a single mouth brooder starve herself to death. is long as she was in good condition when she started clutching she should be fine.

Is she in a tank by herself? If she is I would rather leave her to drop them on her own. If she is left in peace she will eat while the fry are swimming around.

thanks all! She is a somewhat of a community tank. The only empty tank I have is a 55 gallon. Not setting it up for the unknown amount of fry. I am affraid the Fronts will get them where She is though. Biggest one is 4 inches now. Might pick up a 10 gallon this weekend.
