electric blue jack dempsey

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
they are very fragile fish. the electric blue is a weaker gene than the normal jack dempsey. they are known to die for no reason. so take good care of him.

How big the tank ?

any other fish in the tank, get rid of them.

Go buy a bunch of plants, java anubias. Keep the water clean but dont go to crazy with water changes, these guys don't like sudden changes. Keep the temp steady.

Feed a varied flake diet early on.

Personally I'd stick to feeding NLS early on (I opted for the thera +A and never had any problems with mine). I supplemented with the occasional frozen spirulina brine shrimp (occasional being once a week tops).

I had my EBJD in with a larger GT and JD when he was at .5" to the time he was about 2.5" and they just seemed to ignore him most of the time. Didn't have him in a tank with a UV sterilizer early on either, although it's not a bad idea to invest in one. Many people say these guys are very fragile and die out of nowhere but that wasn't the case with mine...never had any problems whatsoever from the time I got him at .5" to the time I sold him at ~5".

Anyway, to sum up my points:

-NLS
-UV sterilizer (to be safe)
-Less aggressive tankmates or none at all (I broke this rule but my case was not typical of the norm)
-Clean filters and water changes regularly

Good luck.

The fish is absolutely gorgeous, he/she is going to look remarkable when it gets bigger. I have a Jack Dempsey and can't wait for him to grow so i can enjoy his color.

everyone is correct but thats only for the weaker genetic EBJD, yours looks like a very strong genetic EBJD..i personally dont think you should have any problems...
