So no salt added for the water changes? I just my first water change in my 10 gallon about 2 weeks ago. Added a little salt. This is my 3rd attempt to raise a ebjd but this time it's from a well known lfs that I had to drive 40 mins to pick it up. So far it's been 4 weeks and he eats like a pig. Feeding nls 1mm Cichlid sinking pellets. Good op with your baby. Mines about the same size and not shy.

I have a couple dozen EBJDs and I love them. In the begining they would die from simple mistakes because they are sensitive fish. My advice is do frequent water changes, and do not allow the ammonia level to ever get above .25ppm. Also, grow them either by themselves or non-aggressive cichlids since the EBJD is far less aggressive than their normal strain counterpart. The stress of tank aggression can kill them. When i raise them, I keep them together until one becomes dominant, and I remove that one out of the tank. believe it or not, I have 3 EBJDs living with my discus... that's how passive these guys can be.

Thanks for the advice. That's what I did with my 3rd one that I have atm. The first I was trying to grow out with a Jack Dempsey and a midas. Bad idea. Actually ebjd#2 was the dominant one until the midas grew just as big and they fought. By that time it was to late. Ebjd was already stressed out and stopped eating. #3 is doing great cause I decided to grow him out by himself. Read it from this site it's best to grow them out by themselves until they are 2-3in.
