hi. i was wondering if anyone could give me advice on whether or not it would be alright to keep an electric blue jd with my two oscars and ornate bichir. the regular jack dempsey's are supposed to be rather aggressive, but the owner guy at my lfs said that the electric blues are usually more docile, but he said my oscar's may pick on him. what do you all think? and if you think they're a good match, is there a particular tank setup you'd recommmend? the electric blues are still little, about the size of my smaller oscar [oscars in my "tank setup" drop down], and the bichir that is listed there as well [my first died :[ , i'm hoping to get a new one in about two weeks.. the owner guy at my lfs said he'd call me when he gets me one...].
thanks!
jessica

it might work depends on the size of the electric blue and the oscars. if the electric blue is alot smaller or about the same size then he will be picked on. If he is a good size bigger then he might not be. the bircher i do not know about. But your tank will have to be 125 min with alot of filtration. going with a wider tank being better. And alot of hiding places for the fish to retreat too.

yeah, i know about the tank size. they're small still, but within a few months i'll have a tank around 150. the bichir i had was very very docile and sweet, and mostly stayed hiding under things. the electric blue is about the size of my smaller oscar, maybe a tad bigger. defiinitely smaller than roland. thank you for the help. i'll consider something else. i just saw them at the fish place today and thought they were beautiful so i was interested in one, but i wasn't exxpecting to hear anything different here than the owner guy told me. it just tends to be that sometimes the majority of people who've owned them have different experiences than the pet store people say, but he's a fish guy and not a pet store guy, so i figured he was probably right. anyway, thank you again.

if the Oscar and bichir are bigger then the EBJD then no they can't be with him.

:] okay, thank you. the bichir is longer, but i wouldn't consider him to actually be bigger. no problems with my smaller oscar, or the puffers that are in there right now for that matter. but my first oscar is definitely bigger, so like i said, i'll rule that cute little guy out

My experiences with the EBJD is, smaller is bad. Bigger is better. I had 2 smaller ones that got killed, 1 by a smaller Convict and one just died. I was lucky to find a 5" EBJD in a LFS here. Since he cost me a bit, I chose to divide my tank to make sure this one didn't get killed. He can fight and has beat the hell out of my regular male... but I just don't want to leave it to chance. He's beautiful, don't wanna lose that investment.

It'd have to be considerably bigger than your other fish, Oscars grow super fast compared to them.
