Hey fellow MFKers,
I am looking to start up a project after having some fun with my RT projects. Was wondering if anyone is selling EBJD's around 2.5-3 inches in size. Preferably in New York but willing to travel tri-state to pick them up. Thanks!

I'm not sure if you've dealt with EBJD's before but it's worth paying extra for a mature one. Odds are against them as minnows. I keep rolling the dice on 10 dollar babies- and they usually don't make it.
Quarantine them well- I recommend 6 weeks as they're prone to parasites and other issues
I hate paying 40+ for a fish but half a dozen failed 10 dollar investments cost me more.
Also I recommend EBJD male + normal female for best results.

In NY they are pretty pricey there is a place called Eddies in Albany, NY (about 3 hours from you) that has a bunch for $29 each. Pets Place II in Nanuet about 30 min from you is able to get almost anything. I used to get stuff from them all the time when I lived down there. All the places I see that sell them sell them around 1". 3" For some reason is when they usually die. Google EBJD and 3" and you will see what I mean. If you find one 3" or bigger you are going to pay a hefty price tag.

I have tried EBJDS several times and have been highly dissapointed they are very fragile fish with a tendency to hide just like regular jacks.

I agree with the other 2 posters. I tried raising 4 frys and lost 3 of them. The 4th one I've had over a year now and is growing very very slow. For some people who claim they grow them out fast is very hard to believe. If I had to do it all over again I would've bought a mature one.

I have a young one about 2". I have been doing research on how to get the best odds and from what I have read most people that have had success use a U/V sterilizer and feed medicated foods to clear out parasites on a regular basis. I am picking up a UVS tomorrow and some special food. Mine is fairly active stays around the same area of the tank but always comes out to feed. I have read that recently there are breeders that are not inbreeding that have been producing some EBJD's that are a bit more hardy. I can not speak on this as I do not know for sure. Please keep us posted on how they do.
