Just saw these at LFS, looked amazing, tho a bit feisty. I dont have much experience with invertabrates but was wondering how they might fare with a community tank. Have a school of tiger barbs, 3 corys, and 1 syno about 4 in long.? anyone have any experience with these ? or any advice at all is appreciated when it comes to crayfish ! THANKS !

There are several different types of blue crayfish that you can buy, and it might depend on which you have. But...I have an Australian Blue Yabby (Cherax Quadricarinatus) and she needs her own tank. I've attempted putting other fish in with her twice and both times the fish lasted all of five minutes before they became her food. Here are some pictures of her so you can check and see if the ones you saw are the same kind:

Ha !! Thats him alright, he was callin me out when he saw me, walked over all the others just to challenge me ! I have a 10 gallon im not using right now i could def use for that. THANKS for the heads up ! my girlfriend would be crushed if i got him and he ate all her fish. Questions if ya know - do they do well with others of theyre species ? Are there any fish or other life that could get along with them ? would the 10 gal be enough ? THANKS MUCH -

Ive had one in with my africans, he did fine in there, even molted. I moved him over to my tank with two green terrors and as long as he has his cave he's fine. A piece of slate propped agaist the tank is what mine always hides under.

They get pretty big, up to 8" long. I've got mine in a twenty gallon, but a ten gallon would probably be ok as long as you did water changes pretty often after he gets big. You might be ok putting one in with bigger fish, or fish that are fast and smart enough to keep away from him....hasn't worked for me though.

i think ill start him in the 10, and hopefully by the time he gets big ill have a larger community set up. Wouldnt wanna lose any of the current residents lol. Great Advice, thanks !
