Hey there folks. Stepped of of FW some time ago but ran into what was accurately titled "Electric Cat fish" at an offbeat store this weekend. So inclined the proprietor asked if I'd like to feel the shock. Sure enough I went for it. Now the guy who was supposed to shock me was about 3 inches (not bad) but his 5 inch buddy came up and got me right after said little man. At this point several things arise in mine head. Why am I sticking my hand in a stranger's tank at his suggestion? Why do I want to feel a shock at all? Why is everyone laughing at me loose my footing and falling over?

Anyone have experience with the larger ones? What's the worst shock picked up?

I have one that is almost 12" but i have never been "shocked" by it. When my little cousins come to my house I show them the tank he is in and pretend to get shocked when i stick my hand in the water (I know its not electric, it is a chemical reaction) but my little cousins laugh now because i taught them the science behind the "shock"

Let's be fair now guys, I only lost my footing because of the surprise. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

On research some sources say up to 350 volts! Holy monkey. Is that enough to stop a heart? Do I have to go and get some of these guys immediately?

Ive never been shocked by mine both at home and the shop.

Can you hear them discharge ? It has been years since I had one but I seem to remember hearing a noise and seeing the feeders stop moving.

I don't think your crazy. Getting a "shock" by a catfish would be awesome. How many people can say that? Some people jump out of airplanes, others race cars... Here, at Monster Fish Keepers we stick our hands in tanks facing electrocution or loss of limb.
