Was curious how often I should be feeding this guy.
As of now, Ive been feeding him twice a day, both times, till I notice a sizeable growth in his stomach.
His growth rate, in this month alone, has been huge. Are they prone to bloat? Should I be limiting his feedings to every other day?
I do 30% water changes 3x a week and his tank is bare bottom.
Diet consists of bloodworms, live swordtails (that I breed myself) and Bug Bites - Bottom Feeder Formula.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Would try feeding daily and wat h the belly to make sure it has reduced some. The other option is to feed and let the belly decrease in size and feed again. Not prone to bloat like some captive bred fish but there’s a slight chance it can happen.

I enjoyed the vid much. Thanks. Tasteful tank. Pretty.

These fish have a gargantuan appetite. Will eat anything and unbelievably much of it.

Given that the rate of success raising them to large sizes seems awfully low, at least among MFKers, and the reasons are unclear, I'd err on the safe side and rather underfeed a bit than overfeed a lot.

It appears that for every 100-1000 ecat threads there is only 1 or 2 where the ecat is reported to grow to 1' or beyond.

Charney Charney 's got a 2'-er and this is the biggest we know of on MFK, it seems. And perhaps the only one that reached 2'. I am not counting outside of MFK.

Well thats depressing. I was hoping to keep him for some time. Has there been any theories as to why they dont live that long in captivity?

You know, this is my superficial judgment. People don't do due diligence in reporting and moreover quit reporting on their fish for many reasons but one common one is that they lose it.

It could be something with their batteries. You can read this and other similar threads for more: https://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/...sh-with-unusual-swelling.676782/#post-7605453

My main focus with this guy has been regular water changes 3x week. Hes surprising active and literally comes to the front of the tank (begging for food) every time I walk by his tank.
Ill post if I notice any change in behavior.
Ill keep the water changes to 3x 30% water changes a week and ill limit his feedings to 1x a day (ill keep the feeding large though).
Ill take any other recommendations. Id like to keep this guy healthy and living a long time. Hes surprisingly one of my most active fish and hes slowly becoming my favourite

I think my guy is pushing 2.5 feet and very thick. I feed him once daily most days of the week. When growing him I only fed him once daily as well. He is always ready to eat and always begging. I feed him mostly large sinking pellets. I supplement with frozen seafood that I hand feed him.
