or will the electric catfish will just shock the others till death....of coarse the others will be much bigger but not too big that can get eaten by the others

mostly a loner, but can live with some synos from my understanding. We have some experts hiding somewhere. Would love to own one myself, but I would do a dedicated tank first.

I'd say for a electric catfish a 100 gallon would house one for a very long time but if you wanted to keep an adult for life probably a 180 at the minimum if it was by itself. I wouldn't house it with anything other than synodontis catfish. From my experience thats the only fish that survive and coexist well with them. I had 3 synodontis multipunctatus and 2 synodontis flavitaeniatus in with my 10" E cat with no problems. The syno's were about 3-4" each. They are a great fish but best kept in a species only tank or with synodontis in my honest opinion.

Others have had success keeping them with other varieties of fish but only if its a large tank and there is plenty of room and hiding for the E cat to seek refuge like lots of rock/slate/driftwood but even then your taking a big gamble that one of your other fish doens't get on the E cats bad side because if so...game over ~Trent
