Electric Catfish Tankmates? Gulper, Irwinni, etc.

Hmm, that's a difficult question to answer, it's highly dependent on the individual fish. I've seen people who can't keep them with anything at all and I've seen people keep them successfully with ghost shrimp without them eating them.
 
My big 12 inch e cat fought with a jag cichlid and paralyZed it's lower half for a week. Any tank mate is at potential risk I wouldn't do it and don't recommend it. But that's just my opinion in the end it's up to you. Never heard of docile ones though although I don't think I've ever been to the catfish forum...

I love mine. He already jumped a divider to kill the other e cat. When he gets some more size I will try him with a school of tetras for pure curiosity. I sure wouldn't test him with anything I cared about.
 
Small tank mates stand a better chance of being ignored but AFAIU still a chance.
 
Id say no...nothing u care about or pay for anyway lol...i gave my electric cat away to atleast 6 differrent people that brought it back months later when he zapped their favorite fish. Another friend has it now. Id pass on the e cat personally, cool for a small solo specimen tank but they can also be a nusience in the end. I kept mine community style from 2"-8"....from 8-12" hes been claiming lives, even one of his own kind.

Totally agree with Wednesday. I, for one, much appreciate the hard-fact confirmation. Mine too was ~ ok in a large community when it was small. I lost him when it was ~7" during a move.

I am picturing the poor e-cat being passed around. It's both funny and sad.
 
I've kept mine with a school of 12 rasboras and also some tetras for the past 4 years with no problems, she is 12". I tried bristle nose plecos, but they just jabbed and bruised my catfish.
