Got some questions, am thinking of getting one/few in my 55g:)
What are their max. size?
How many could i keep in L: 100cm W: 30cm H: 45cm?
Can you keep more than one togother?

Need some answers quick!

They get about a foot.... you should keep them single and in a species tank since they give off quite a jolt and can kill other tank mates quite easy as they mature.. i have one and i like him alot... fat sausage,..if you get one just a little advice, they love to eat but do not overfeed...

So i could'nt keep 2 0r 3 til they grow?
In the Lfs thehave kept few in the same tank in 3 months without trouble!

its an lfs, they do alot wrong they just like how they sell fish that get huge without warning people,of course they'll keep them in the same tank

If raised as babies together and you provide enough structure for them to stake claim (territory) you might be able to keep two.

Species only!

Feed well and often, but I recommend that you "fast" them every other week or so for a couple days.

Warm water.....70-75 degrees

Dim light

Java Fern, Java Moss

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO HAND TRAIN OR "ACCLIMATE"! Speaking from personal experience the jolt that an 8 inch Electric Cat can produce is enough to make your bladder think its time to evacuate its contents:shocked:

Careful while cleaning the tank.

well lfs get away with alot of things we would never dream of doing., but i quess you can check into it, i have never heard of it but that does not mean it isn't possible...

Search for some of my old threads about E cats, the normal malapterus electricus (sp?) can get closer the 2.5-3ft but I've never seen pics of one over about 2 feet and never heard of one in captivity over 16". I kept synodontis species catfish with mine for a year or so just fine, I had heard they were immune to the e cat discharge and decided to try it. The theory held. Syno flavitaeniatus and syno multipunctatus were the two species I kept with mine. E cats are probably my favorite catfish species, period. Lots of character, very hearty, slow growers so you can keep them for a long time in relatively small tank sizes. ~Trent
